In the area of Language and Reading, the teachers will assess where the child is at in their understanding of phonics, beginning and ending sounds, word building, memorizing, and utilizing sight words, and beginning reading.

 

In the Montessori Transitional Kindergarten program, the children are also introduced to journaling. Taking their thoughts and ideas to a paper expression in a fluid manner is quite a challenging experience for them. By breaking down the steps to writing, and with initial teacher support, the children create beautiful journals throughout the year.

 

Montessori Transitional Kindergarten Mathematics Program

In the area of Mathematics, the children will be working on assigning quantity to the numeral, adding first simple addition then continuing through simple multiplication, depending on their interest. The children will work with clocks, and understand how to read the hour, half-hour and more on both digital and analog clocks. Opportunity to work with money and understanding the relationships of such concepts as the number of pennies to a dollar, etc.

 

Additional Montessori TK Programs

Families have the option to receive worksheet packets that are individualized to the child’s academic level. These worksheet packets are intended to reinforce concepts that the child is working on at school. Other areas in the curriculum include Art, Science, Botany, History, Sensorial and Practical Life/Daily Living Skill exploration. Additionally, Cooking Projects and Specialized Art Activities occur a few times each week.
